Nicolas Szilas holds a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science and has gathered an interdisciplinary expertise in varied domains such as Computing, Artificial Intelligence (both symbolic and statistic), Psychology of education, Educational Technology, Game Design, Narrative studies, and Digital Arts. He has been working in both industry and academic research, within French, Australian and Swiss entities.
From 1999, he is conducting research on Interactive Narrative and has been involved in several Swiss and European projects related to this domain such as IRIS (Integrated Research on Interactive Storytelling), FELINE (Fine-grained Evaluation of the Interactive Narrative Experience) and Carezheimer. In 2015, his team released Nothing For Dinner, an interactive drama and educational game that is the outcome of interdisciplinary research at the crossword of narrative theories, psychology and computing.
He has been teaching serious game design since 2008, producing with his students 50+ games dedicated to education or training, with a strong focus on the intrinsic integration of learning content into game mechanic.
